The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering a full calendar of fun activities during the month of March. In addition to hikes and other outside activities, they are looking for volunteers to assist in keeping our hillsides abundant with plants that will be regrowing in spring.
Special Events:
Guided Nature walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy to Royal Palms, on Saturday, March 8th, 2014, beginning at 9 a.m. – You will see the unusual geologic formations on the coastal bluffs down to the shoreline while also learning more about the cultural history of the area from abalone fishing to the recent landslide. This a free moderate walk open to the public.
Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Native Plant Sale at White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, March 22, 2014, from 12-2 p.m., at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.
Composting For Your Home Garden Workshop will be held at White Point Nature Education Center, on Saturday, March 29, from 10:00 a.m. -12 noon. This is a free workshop presented by the Water Replenishment District. Reservations are recommended. The Nature Center is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.
White Point Nature Education Center will also be hosting a pop up library at the Center on Saturday, March 29, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. This mobile library exhibit will feature nature related books for all ages. It is presented by the Palos Verdes Library District. The White Point Nature Center is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.
Monthly Activities: George F Canyon First Saturday Bird Walk will be taking place on March 1, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. This is considered a slow easy walk so that the birds are not startled. Binoculars are provided if needed. Also, later in the day at 3:00 p.m., the First Saturday Walk takes place at the Canyon with a descriptive walk by a naturalist. There is a $5 suggested donation for this walk. George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.
Storytime with the Rangers at the White Point Nature Education Center will be on Saturday, March 8, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. You can listen to nature themed children’s stories for young people of all ages. This month’s theme is Threatened Species. Storytime is the 2nd Saturday of every month. The Center is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.
Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time. Children must be 9 years of age and there is a charge of $10 per person.
Birding with Wild Birds Unlimited will take place at the White Point Nature Preserve on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. Binoculars will be provided. This is an easy walk and is free. Parking is at the Preserve located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. There is also a Wild Birds Unlimited walk at the George F. Canyon Nature Preserve, Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 8:30 a.m., Parking for this event is at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.
Ranger Guided Family Walk at the White Point Nature Preserve will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2014, 10 a.m. to 12 noon. This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.
Volunteering Events:
Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Outdoor Volunteer Day at Native Plant Nursery, will be on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon. You will prepare native plant seedings for planting on restoration sites. Reservations required by Wednesday before the event. To RSVP call (310) 541-7613.
Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Outdoor Volunteer Day at Portuguese Bend Reserve will be on Saturday, March 29, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This day will be filled with weeding and watering to ensure native shrubs flourish. To RSVP call (310) 541-7613, or go to info@pvplc.org.
