The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering a full calendar of activities for Palos Verdes homes owners to participate in during the month of April. In addition to hikes and other outside activities, they are always looking for volunteers to assist in keeping our hillsides abundant with plants that will help our wildlife flourish.
Special Events:
Film Series: The Beauty of Nature – Warner Grand Theatre, Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 4:30 p.m. “Yosemite: A Gathering of Spirit.” This film by Ken Burns highlights the preservation of our first national park, a precedent for protecting open space on the Peninsula. Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy to the Defense Fuel Support Point, on Saturday, April 12, 2014, 9:00 a.m. You can explore one of the only endangered Palos Verdes blue butterfly habitats and view the nursery where the Conservancy grows native plants. White Point Nature Education Center will hold its Coastal Sage Scrub Workshop on Saturday, April 26, 2014, from 2:30 – 3;30 p.m. You will learn about the native plants of our rare habitat and why it is important. The White Point Nature Center is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.
Monthly Activities: George F Canyon First Saturday Bird Walk will be taking place on April 5, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. This is considered a slow easy walk so that the birds are not startled. Binoculars are provided if needed. Also, later in the day at 3:00 p.m., the First Saturday Walk takes place at the Canyon with a descriptive walk by a naturalist. There is a $5 suggested donation for this walk. George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.
Storytime with the Rangers at the White Point Nature Education Center will be on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. You can listen to nature themed children’s stories for young people of all ages. This month’s theme is Earth Month. Storytime is the 2nd Saturday of every month. The Center is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.
Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time. Children must be 9 years of age and there is a charge of $10 per person.
Birding with Wild Birds Unlimited will take place at the White Point Nature Preserve on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. Binoculars will be provided. This is an easy walk and is free. Parking is at the Preserve located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. .
Ranger Guided Family Walk at the White Point Nature Preserve will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014, 10 a.m. to 12 noon. This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.
