Palos Verdes Earth Day Celebration!
Palos Verdes Earth Day Celebrations will be hosted by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy on Saturday, April 25, 2015, and Palos Verdes homes owners will have an opportunity to join in the fun at White Point Nature Preserve. We have been celebrating Earth Day on April 22 in this country since 1970. The first Earth Day led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species Act.
At White Point Nature Preserve from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., families can enjoy this Palos Verdes Earth Day celebration. From 9:00 to 12:00 p.m., you can volunteer in the demonstration garden around the White Point Nature Education Center. At 10:00 a.m. the LA City Rangers will lead a family friendly nature hike to explore trails with native coastal habitat, blooming wildflowers and wildlife. From 11:00 a.m. to noon there will be a nature inspired art activity by the PV Art Center’s “Art at Your Fingertips.” Conservation Director, Danielle Lefer, will have a workshop from 11:00 a.m to noon sharing her expertise on the value of habitat restoration and techniques. From noon to 2:00 p.m., there will be a sale of local plants from the nursery.
Volunteers can enjoy refreshments and snacks provided by Whole Foods Torrance along with a reusable bag/garden activity and Starbucks coffee. Toyota Motor Sales is sponsoring the event by providing gloves and supplies. The Conservancy’s outdoor volunteer days are sponsored by REI Inc., Room & Board, and the Harbor Community Benefit Foundation.
To sign up for the volunteer outdoor workday, please call Jill Whitman at (310) 541-7613 or email info@pvplc.org. Wear comfortable shoes and bring sun protection. For more information, please visit: www.pvplc.org. White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.
