Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Hikes & Trails for May
During the month of May, there will be several outdoor activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy through The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy – from nature walks with naturalists, bird walks, nocturnal full moon walk to volunteer opportunities which are listed below.
Special Events:
The guided nature walk by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. You can view a premier example of the restoration of coastal sage scrub habitat and stop at a former gun emplacement to learn about the military history of the area. Don’t miss the Nature Education Center with activities for the whole family. This is a moderate walk. To park, drive to the southern end of Western Ave, then turn left onto Paseo del Mar and drive 1/2 mile and enter gate on left and park in the lot. This event is free and open to the public. First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on May 2, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. with a descriptive talk/walk led by a naturalist. George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates. For more information call (310) 547-0862.
The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. Binoculars will be provided and this is a slow easy walk. Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Sunday, May 3, 2015. Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time. Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.
The Family Garden Exploration with LA City Rangers will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the White Point Nature Preserve from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Your children will enjoy spending time with the LA City Rangers at the White Point Nature Preserve listening to nature themed children’s stories for young people of all ages. This month’s theme is Flowers and Pollination. This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve. Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. Explore the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the preserve. Nature Walk with LA City Rangers at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Enjoy a family oriented walk led by Los Angeles City Rangers. No reservations are required. White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.
The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy presents Honeybees and Humans at White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. Join Reverend Dr. Donald Barnes to learn more about the life cycle of bees, hives and hones, and what you can do to support local pollinators. This is a free workshop. The Center is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro, Calif. RSVP to info@pvplc.org.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of May will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Mondays through Fridays at 9:00 a.m. Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects. Must RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the date you wish to volunteer. Email info@pvplc.org to RSVP.
Saturday Outdoor Volunteer Days at the White Point Nature Preserve will take place on May 2nd and 30th, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. You will be able to help beautify the native plant garden.
