Palos Verdes Land Conservancy Hikes & Trails for June
During the month of June, there will be several outdoor activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy through the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy – from nature walks with naturalists, bird walks, nocturnal full moon walk to volunteer opportunities which are listed below.
Special Events:
The guided nature walk by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at Abalone Cove, Shoreline Park, will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. You will visit the newly landscaped trails lined with drought tolerant plants and interpretive signage. You will also be able to walk down to the tide pools. This is a moderate walk. Parking is available in the lot at Abalone Cove Shoreline Park, 5970 Palos Verdes Drive South across from Wayfarer’s Chapel. There is no parking fee and this is a free and open walk for the public. The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will be presenting a NEW Butterfly Workshop at White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. You will learn about local butterflies from expert, Jess Morton, before the actual annual butterfly count. This is a free workshop. White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. RSVP to info@pvplc.org.
The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy presents Coastal Sage Scrub 101 at White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. You will join naturalist, Neil Uelman, to learn about our local habitat and rare biodiversity. Monthly Activities:
Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Friday, June 4, 2015. Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time. Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.
First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on June 6, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. with a descriptive talk/walk led by a naturalist. George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates. For more information call (310) 547-0862.
The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. Binoculars will be provided and this is a slow easy walk. The Family Garden Exploration with LA City Rangers will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at the White Point Nature Preserve from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 noon. Your children will enjoy spending time with the LA City Rangers at the White Point Nature Preserve listening to nature themed children’s stories for young people of all ages. This month’s theme is Geology and Soil. This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve. Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. Explore the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the preserve. No reservations are required. White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of June will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Mondays through Fridays at 9:00 a.m. Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects. Must RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the date you wish to volunteer. Email info@pvplc.org to RSVP.
Saturday Outdoor Volunteer Day at the Native Plant Nursery will take place on June 13, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.
