Palos Verdes Land Conservancy Presents “The Beauty of Nature” 2015 Series
Palos Verdes home owners have the opportunity to view The Beauty of Nature film series sponsored by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. The films that are being shown are:
Renoir will be shown on June 13, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. at the Warner Grand Theatre. This is a documentary about plein-air painter Pierre Auguste Renoir who loved color, natural landscapes and painting outdoors to capture light and the beauty of nature. In 1915, Renoir is crippled by both personal loss and arthritis, but then meets a teenager Andree who brightens his life, finds new purpose and resumes his pleasure in painting outdoors. This is a R-rated movie for sequences of art related nudity and brief language. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Consevancy.
The Warner Grand Theatre is located at 478 W. 6th Street, San Pedro.
Chasing Ice will be shown on July 19, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. at the John Olguin Auditorium. This documentary will have you traveling with a team of young adventurers across the brutal Arctic, where environmental photographer James Balog risks his career and his well being in pursuit of the biggest story facing humanity. It depicts a heroic photojournalist on a mission to deliver a spectacular footage of nature while capturing a multi year record of the world’s changing glaciers. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.pvplc.org.
The John Olguin Auditorium is located at 3710 Stephen M White Drive, San Pedro.
Lost Bird Project will be presented at Peninsula High School Theatre on September 20, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. Five birds, driven to extinction in modern times, are sculpted by Todd McGrain as a project to memorialize them. The film follows McGran as he searches for the locations where the birds were last seen in the wild and installs his large bronze sculptures in their memory. Local San Pedro resident and filmmaker Scott Anger will be discussing the film. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.pvplc.org.
Peninsula High School Theatre is located at 27118 Silver Spur Road, Rolling Hills Estates.
Mr. Turner will be shown on November 21, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. at the Warner Grand Theatre. The film focuses on British painter J.M.W.Turner (1775-1851) who is profoundly affected by the death of his father. He forms a close relationship with a seaside landlady with whom he eventually lives incognito in Chelsea. Throughout the film, he is traveling, painting and even straps himself to the mast of a ship so that he can paint a snowstorm.
