During the month of July, there will be several outdoor activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy through the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy – from nature walks with naturalists, bird walks, nocturnal full moon walk to volunteer opportunities which are listed below.

Special Events: 

The new guided nature walk sponsored by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place at the Alta Vicente Reserve/Terranea Bluffs will take place on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at 9:00 a.m.  While walking cliffside along bluffs that are home to the rare El Segundo blue butterfly along the new Salvation Army Trail, you will explore established cactus wren and gnatcatcher habitat and see beautiful views of Catalina Island.   This is a strenuous walk.  Park in the lot near Rancho Palos Verdes City Hall at 30940 Hawthorne Blvd.  This is a free and open walk for the public.  For more information call (310) 541-7613 x 201 or visit the website at www.pvplc.org.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy presents the Beauty of Nature Film Series:  Chasing Ice will be at the John Olguin Auditorium, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium on Sunday, July 19th at 4:00 p.m.  Environmental photographer, James Balog, deploys time lapse cameras to capture a multi-year record of the world’s changing glaciers.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by going to the website www.pvplc.org.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy presents Native Garden Care Workshop at White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, July 25, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Join the California Native Plant Society and expert Tony Baker for tips and tricks on caring for your native garden during summer months.  This is a free workshop.  White Point is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  RSVP to info@pvplc.org.

Monthly Activities:

First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on July 4, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. with a guided walk through the canyon. All ages are welcome.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information call (310) 547-0862.

The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, July 5, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.  Binoculars will be provided and this is a slow easy walk.  This walk is free and open to the public.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information call (310) 547-0862.

The Family Garden Exploration with LA City Rangers will take place on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at the White Point Nature Preserve from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Your children will enjoy spending time with the LA City Rangers at the White Point Nature Preserve listening to nature themed children’s stories for young people of all ages.  This month’s theme is Local Cultural History.  This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve.  The Preserve is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  For more information visit www.pvplc.org or call (310) 541-7613.

Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.  Explore the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the preserve.  The program is free and open to the public.  All ages are welcome.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.  Call (310) 541-7613 to sign up.

Nature Walk with LA City Rangers at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.  Enjoy a family oriented walk led by Los Angeles City Rangers.  No reservations are required.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Native Plant Sale will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2015, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the White Point Nature Education Center.  The Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  For more information visit www.pvplc.org.

Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Friday, July 31, 2015.  Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time.  Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.

Volunteer Opportunities: 

Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of July will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Mondays through Fridays at 9:00 a.m. Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.  Must RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the date you wish to volunteer.  Email info@pvplc.org to RSVP.

Saturday Outdoor Volunteer Day at the Native Plant Nursery will take place on July 11, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.  Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.  RSVP to info@pvplc.org or (310) 541-7613 required by Wednesday, July 10th and directions will be provided with reservation.

Saturday Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on July 18, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.  Help remove weeds and groom trails to beautify the native plant garden.  Sign up at http://www.pvplc.org/_volunteer/index.asp.
