Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy during the month of August 2015  – from nature walks with naturalists, bird walks, nocturnal full moon walk to volunteer opportunities which are listed below.

Special Events: 

The new guided nature walk sponsored by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place at Cabrillo Beach Shoreline on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 9:00 a.m.  You will see coastal native plants, learn about the history of the harbor and feel free to follow your visit with a trip to the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium for a great summertime family activity.  This is a moderate walk.  Park in the Cabrillo Beach public lot at 3800 Stephen M. Trail Crew Intro Class at the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy office will take place on Saturday, August 8th, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Join the Trail Crew for monthly field practice in trails assessment and repair techniques.  The Introductory Class will give an overview to the 50 hour certification training program.  RSVP to info@pvplc.org or call (310) 541-7613.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy presents Backyard Birding Workshop at White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at 11:00 a.m.  Learn tips from Bob Shanman of Wild Birds Unlimited.  This is a free workshop.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  RSVP to info@pvplc.org.

Monthly Activities:

First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on August 1, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. with a guided walk through the canyon.  All ages are welcome.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information call (310) 547-0862.

The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, August 2, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.  Binoculars will be provided and this is a slow easy walk.  This walk is free and open to the public.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information call (310) 547-0862.

The Family Garden Exploration with LA City Rangers will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at the White Point Nature Preserve from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Your children will enjoy spending time with the LA City Rangers at the White Point Nature Preserve listening to nature themed children’s stories for young people of all ages.  This month’s theme is Summer Survival.  This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve.  The Preserve is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  For more information visit www.pvplc.org or call (310) 541-7613.

Nature Walk with LA City Rangers at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.  Enjoy a family oriented walk led by Los Angeles City Rangers.  No reservations are required.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.

Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.  Explore the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the preserve.  The program is free and open to the public.  All ages are welcome.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.  Call (310) 541-7613 to sign up.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Native Plant Sale will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2015, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the White Point Nature Education Center.  The Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  For more information visit www.pvplc.org.

Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Saturday, August 29, 2015.  Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time.  Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.

Volunteer Opportunities: 

Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of August will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m.  Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.  Must RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the date you wish to volunteer.  Email info@pvplc.org to RSVP.

Saturday Outdoor Volunteer Day at the Native Plant Nursery will take place on August 1, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.  Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.  RSVP to info@pvplc.org or (310) 541-7613 required by Wednesday, July 29th and directions will be provided with reservation.

Saturday Outdoor Volunteer Days at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on August 8 & August 29th, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.  Help remove weeds and groom trails to beautify the native plant garden.  Sign up at http://www.pvplc.org.

Saturday Outdoor Volunteer Day at Aqua Amarga Reserve will take place on August 15, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.  Volunteers are needed to help restore this unique canyon habitat.  Sign up at www.pvplc.org.
