The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is once again offering several different outdoor activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy during the month of September 2015  – from bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk to volunteer opportunities which are listed below.

Special Events: 

A guided nature walk sponsored by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place at Bluff Cove, on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at 3:00 p.m.  You will descend to one of the most beautiful coves on the Peninsula by taking a shoreline hike down to the tide pools.  Explore the beach where professional surfing was introduced to the area in the 1920’s and learn about the ambitious early plans of the Palos Verdes Project.  This is a moderate walk.  You can park just off of Palos Verdes Drive West near the intersection at Malaga Cove Plaza by turning onto Via Corta toward the beach.  At Via Arroyo, turn right and continue to Paseo del Mar.  Turn left and park along the road 1/2 mile beyond The Neighborhood Church.  This is a free and open walk for the public.  For more information call (310) 541-7613 x 201 or visit the website at www.pvplc.org.

Team Leader Training Workshop at White Point Nature Center will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Team Leaders provide support and oversight during Outdoor Volunteer Days.  If you love restoring habitat and working with others, this program is for you!  For more info, please email info@pvplc.org.

Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy presents Water Conservation Strategies Workshop at White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, September 26, 2015, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Join Conservancy Stewardship Manager, Cris Sarabia, to explore different water conservation strategies in the native plant garden.  He will be discussing grey water use, drip irrigation, efficient sprinklers and alternatives to watering plants.  This is a free workshop and will be held at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. RSVP to info@pvplc.org.

Monthly Activities:

First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on September 5, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. with a guided walk through the canyon.  All ages are welcome.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information call (310) 547-0862.

The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.  Binoculars will be provided and this is a slow easy walk.  This walk is free and open to the public.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information call (310) 547-0862.

The Family Garden Exploration with LA City Rangers will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at the White Point Nature Preserve from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Your children will enjoy spending time with the LA City Rangers exploring the native plant demonstration garden and listening to nature themed children’s stories for young people of all ages.  This month’s theme is The Watershed.  This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve.  The Preserve is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  For more information visit www.pvplc.org or call (310) 541-7613.

Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.  Explore the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the preserve.  The program is free and open to the public.  All ages are welcome.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.  Call (310) 541-7613 to sign up.

Nature Walk with LA City Rangers at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.  Enjoy a family oriented walk led by Los Angeles City Rangers.  No reservations are required.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Native Plant Sale will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2015, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the White Point Nature Education Center.  The Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  For more information visit www.pvplc.org.

Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Sunday, September 27, 2015. Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time.  Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.

Volunteer Opportunities: 

Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of September will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m.  Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.  Must RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the date you wish to volunteer.  Email info@pvplc.org to RSVP.
