Palos Verdes Hikes & Trails Events October 2015
During the month of October 2015, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering several different outdoor activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.
Special Events:
Nature and Me Story Time at George F Canyon Nature Center will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015, from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. You can share the joy of reading with your children and introduce them to the beauty of our natural surrounds. New Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place at Klondike Canyon, Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. You will follow a loop overlooking the Portuguese Bend landslide to experience splendid views. This is considered a strenuous walk. You may park along Forrestal Drive or in the lot at Ladera Linda Community Center, 32201 Forrestal Drive. Meet near the gate. This is free and open to the public. Wildlife Tracking Workshop will take place on Saturdays, October 10, 17, 24 & 31. Dedicated volunteers are needed to monitor wild foxes and coyotes in the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve. No experience is required and training will be provided. Please contact bmendelsohn@pvplc.org.

Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy presents Native Plants For Your Garden Workshop at White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, October 24, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Naturalist, Holly Gray, will teach you more about her favorite native plants that can thrive in your garden. This workshop is free. White Point Nature Center is located at 1600 W. First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on October 3, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. with a guided walk through the canyon. All ages are welcome. George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates. For more information, call (310) 547-0862.
The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, October 4, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. Binoculars will be provided and this is a slow easy walk. The Family Garden Exploration with LA City Rangers will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at the White Point Nature Preserve from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Your children will enjoy spending time with the LA City Rangers exploring the native plant demonstration garden and listening to nature themed children’s stories for young people of all ages. This month’s theme is Nocturnal Nature. This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve. Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. Explore the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve. Nature Walk with LA City Rangers at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Enjoy a family oriented walk led by Los Angeles City Rangers. No reservations are required. White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.
The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Native Plant Sale will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2015, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the White Point Nature Education Center. The Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. For more information, visit www.pvplc.org.

Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Sunday, October 30, 2015. Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time. Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of October will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects. Must RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the date you wish to volunteer. Email info@pvplc.org to RSVP.
Volunteer Orientation at Ladera Linda Community Center will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2015, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. You will learn about the Conservancy and how you can get involved. From office work to trail work, there is something for everyone. They will also have snacks and giveaways. To register, go to http://pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
Outdoor Volunteer Day at Portuguese Bend will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Help restore this beautiful habitat while looking at beautiful views. Sign up at www.pvplc.org.
Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You will plant shrubs and remove weeds to beautify the native plant garden and habitat. Sign up at www.pvplc.org.
Outdoor Volunteer Day at Native Plant Nursery will take place on Saturday, October 31, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You will nurturie seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects. RSVP required by Wednesday prior to the event. Sign up at www.pvplc.org.
