Palos Verdes Hikes & Trails Events December 2015

During the month of December 2015, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.

Special Events: 

The 3rd Grade Naturalist Program Docent Training at White Point Nature Center will take place on December 1st & December 3rd, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Participants must attend the two part training program to become a 3rd Grade Naturalist Program Docent.  This training will prepare you to lead 4 classroom sessions and assist in a field trip; you can then adopt one of our local schools that participates in this program.  No experience is required, just enthusiasm to help connect the 3rd grade students with the local open spaces.  If interested, go to http://pvplc.volunteerhub.com.  White Point Education Center is located at 1600 W. Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place at Ocean Trails – West Bluff Reserve on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 2:00 p.m.   You will walk along restored habitat on the bluffs surrounding the Trump National Golf Club and hopefully catch a glimpse of the rare California gnatcatcher songbirds while walking to the beach.  This is considered a moderate walk.  Park in the public lot on the east side of the clubhouse at the bottom of Trump National Drive off of Palos Verdes Drive South. Monthly Activities:

First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. with a guided walk through the canyon.  All ages are welcome.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information, call (310) 547-0862.

The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, December 6, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.  Binoculars will be provided and this is a slow easy walk.  This walk is free and open to the public.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information, call (310) 547-0862.

The Family Garden Exploration with LA City Rangers will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the White Point Nature Preserve from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Your children will enjoy spending time with the LA City Rangers exploring the native plant demonstration garden and listening to nature themed children’s stories for young people of all ages.  This month’s theme is Changing Seasons.  This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve.  The Preserve is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  For more information, visit www.pvplc.org or call (310) 541-7613.

Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.  Explore the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve.  The program is free and open to the public.  All ages are welcome.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.  Call (310) 541-7613 to sign up.

Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Saturday, December 26, 2015.  Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time.  Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.

Volunteer Opportunities: 

Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of December will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Monday through Friday, December 1 through December 11, 2015,  at 9:00 a.m.  Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.  Must RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the date you wish to volunteer.  Email info@pvplc.org to RSVP.

Outdoor Volunteer Day at Native Plant Nursery will take place on Saturday, December 5, 2015, from 9:00 a.m to 12:00 noon. Reservations are required by Wednesday, December 2, 2015.  Sign up at http://pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Outdoor Volunteer Day at Portuguese Bend Reserve, Agua Amarga Reserve, will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Help restore this beautiful habitat while enjoying the beautiful view.  Please sign up at http://pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, December 19, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  You will plant shrubs and remove weeds to beautify the native plant garden and habitat.  Please sign up at http://pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
