Palos Verdes Hikes & Trails Events November 2016
During the month of November 2016, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor hikes/activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.
Special Events:
Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place at Portuguese Bend Reserve, on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. You will walk through an area of beautiful coastal sage scrub habitat regrown after the 2009 fire. Uses For Native Plants Workshop at White Point Nature Education Center will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. You will experience how local plants are used in traditional and modern ways with Craig Torres. They suggest you bring your re-usable mug/water bottle for additional water. The cost is $20 per person. Microplants On The Peninsula will be held at White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, November 26, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Naturalist Neil Uelman will give you a close look at the smallest plants that grow here locally (based on his recent research on biological soil crust). Rapid Response Trail Work will take place on Friday, November 4, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Forrestal Reserve. You will walk alongside conservancy staff protecting important wildlife habitat by closing unauthorized trails. Sign up at http://pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
The First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. Bring your family and join a naturalist guide to discover habitat, wildlife and more on an easy hike up the canyon with amazing views of the city. The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk at George F Canyon will take place on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. Binoculars will be provided and this is considered an easy walk and is free and open to the public. Family Storytime – Stories, Songs and More for All at White Point Nature Education Center will take place on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. They will share the joy of storytelling with your children and introduce them to the beauty of our natural surroundings. Retired Children’s Librarian, Carla Sedlacek, will read stories and lead activities featuring nature themes using exciting props and songs. Bring the whole family. Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Saturday, November 12, 2016. Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. Observe the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve. Guided Nature Walk at the White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, November 26, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. You can visit the White Point Nature Preserve and attend a Naturalist-guided hike. While hiking you can enjoy coastal views and learn more about the plants, animals, restoration area, etc. White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. Volunteer Opportunities:
Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of November will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. You will nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.
