Palos Verdes Hikes & Trails Events December 2016
During the month of December 2016, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor hikes/activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.
Special Events:
Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place at Filiorum Reserve, on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. You will walk Jack’s Hat Trail on this 191 acre property linking the Three Sisters and Portuguese Bend Reserves. This wildlife corridor boasts beautiful ocean views and lots of native habitat. This is considered a strenuous walk. Parking will be on the street on Ocean Terrace Drive near Pacifica Drive in Rancho Palos Verdes. This walk is free and open to the public. Native Garden Care Workshop at White Point Nature Education Center will take place on Saturday, December 17, 2016, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. At the workshop you will get tips on making your native plant garden bloom by Tony Baker, Native Plant Expert. Monthly Activities:
The First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. Bring your family and join a naturalist guide to discover habitat, wildlife and more on an easy hike up the canyon with amazing views of the city. The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk at George F Canyon will take place on Sunday, December 4, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. Binoculars will be provided and this is considered an easy walk and is free and open to the public. Family Storytime – Stories, Songs and More for All at White Point Nature Education Center will take place on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. They will share the joy of storytelling with your children and introduce them to the beauty of our natural surroundings. Retired Children’s Librarian, Carla Sedlacek, will read stories and lead activities featuring nature themes using exciting props and songs. Bring the whole family. Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Friday, December 16, 2016. Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time. Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person. Reservations required at www.pvplc.org/Events&Activities.
Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. Observe the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve. Binoculars will be supplied for beginners. The program is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome. White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro. Guided Nature Walk at the White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, December 24, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. You can visit the White Point Nature Preserve and attend a Naturalist-guided hike. While hiking you can enjoy coastal views and learn more about the plants, animals, restoration area, etc. White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. Native Plant Sale at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, December 24, 2016, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Plants are sold on a first come, first serve basis. White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar in San Pedro. For more information call 9310) 541-7613.
Birding with Wild Birds at George F Canyon will take place on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. Explore the birds in nesting season making a home in the Conservancy protected habitat. The program is free and all ages are welcome. Parking is available at the Center which is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates. Volunteer Opportunities:
Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of December will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. You will nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects. You must RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the date you wish to volunteer. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
Outdoor Volunteer Day at Alta Vicente Reserve will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Help restore this unique canyon habitat to many threatened and endangered wildlife species. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, December 10, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Help beautify the native demonstration garden and surrounding habitat. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
