Palos Verdes Hikes & Trails Events March 2017
During the month of March 2017, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor hikes/activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.
Special Events:
SLIME, Snails & Slugs Presentation will take place at the White Point Nature Education Center & Preserve on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. You can join Natural History Museum’s Jann Vendetti to be come a snail and slug citizen scientist. Nature & Me Storytime at George F Canyon Nature Center will take place on Friday, March 31, 2017, from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. You can share the joy of reading with your children and introduce them to the beauty of our natural surrounds. Monthly Activities:
The First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. Bring your family and join a naturalist guide to discover habitat, wildlife and more on an easy hike up the canyon with amazing views of the city. Stories, Songs and More for All will take place at the White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. You can share the joy of storytelling with your children and introduce them to the beauty of their natural surroundings. Your family will enjoy spending time with retired Children’s Librarian Carla Sedlacek for stores and activities featuring nature themes, exciting props and songs. Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at White Point/Royal Palms will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. Explore the preserve and demonstration garden followed by a visit to the tide pools at Royal Palms State Beach. Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. Observe the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve. Binoculars will be supplied for beginners. The program is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome. White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro. Guided Nature Walk at the White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. You can visit the White Point Nature Preserve and attend a Naturalist-guided hike. While hiking you can enjoy coastal views and learn more about the plants, animals, restoration area, etc. White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. Native Plant Sale at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2017, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Plants are sold on a first come, first serve basis. White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar in San Pedro. For more information call (310) 541-7613.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Outdoor Volunteer Days at Native Plant Nursery will take place on Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. You will nurture seedlings and help shrubs grow for habitat restoration projects. Must RSVP at least 48 hours in advance. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
Outdoor Volunteer Day at Portuguese Bend Reserve will take place on Saturday, March 4, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Help restore important wildlife habitat while enjoying beautiful views. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteer.com.
Outdoor Volunteer Day at Alta Vicente Reserve will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Help restore this unique canyon habitat to many threatened and endangered wildlife species. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. You can help beautify the native demonstration garden and surrounding habitat. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
Rapid Response Team will be working on Fridays and Saturdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You will work alongside conservancy staff protecting important wildlife habitat by closing unauthorized trails. The task will include trail maintenance, building fences, installing signage and more. They will be working various locations around the Preserve where work is most needed. Directions to sites will be emailed after signing up. No experience is needed. Volunteers must be 15 and older.
