Palos Verdes Hikes & Trails Events May 2017
During the month of May 2017, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor hikes/activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.
Special Events:
Bird Call Introduction at White Point Nature Education Center & Preserve will take place on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. The presentation will look at our local birds and the sounds that they make. This event is Free. Please go to www.pvplc.org, Events & Activities or call (310) 541-7613.
Monthly Activities:
The First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. Bring your family and join a naturalist guide to discover habitat, wildlife and more on an easy hike up the canyon with amazing views of the city. Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Sunday, May 7, 2017. Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time. Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person. Reservations required at ww.pvplc.org/Events&Activities.
Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at Forrestal Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. At the preserve you will enjoy some of the best wildflower viewing and dramatic geological formations on the cliffs of this former basalt quarry. Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. Observe the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve. Binoculars will be supplied for beginners. The program is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome. White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro. Birding with Wild Birds at George F Canyon will take place on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. Explore the birds in nesting season making a home in the canyon. The program is free and all ages are welcome. Parking is available at the Center which is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates. Native Plant Sale at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, May 27, 2017, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Plants are sold on a first come, first serve basis. White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar in San Pedro. For more information call (310) 541-7613.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Rapid Response Team will be working on Fridays and Saturdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You will work alongside conservancy staff protecting important wildlife habitat by closing unauthorized trails. The task will include trail maintenance, building fences, installing signage and more. They will be working various locations around the Preserve where work is most needed. Directions to sites will be emailed after signing up. No experience is needed. Volunteers must be 15 and older. Outdoor Volunteer Days at Native Plant Nursery will take place on Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. You will nurture seedlings and help shrubs grow for habitat restoration projects. Must RSVP at least 48 hours in advance. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
Outdoor Volunteer Day at Alta Vicente Reserve will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Help restore this unique canyon habitat to many threatened and endangered wildlife species. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
Outdoor Volunteer Day at Portuguese Bend Reserve will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Help restore important wildlife habitat while enjoying beautiful views. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteer.com.
Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Help beautify the native demonstration garden and surrounding habitat. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
