During the month of May 2018, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor hikes/activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.
Special Events:
Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Land Conservancy at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. You will be able to view a premier example of the restoration coastal sage scrub habitat and stop at a former gun emplacement to learn about the military history of the area. There will also be activities for the whole family at the Nature Education Center. This is considered a moderate walk and is free and open to the public. The nature preserve is located at 1600 W. Big Sunday Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This is a fun event where Angelenos from around the city get together for a Big Sunday Community Celebration Volunteer Day to help beautify the native plant demonstration garden at 1600 W. 4th Saturday Presentations at the White Point Nature Preserve, “Alchemy Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls by Jeralyn Glass” will take place on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. Experience this unique presentation by internationally known musician, professor and sound healing practitioner, Jeralyn Glass, to experience one of the most sought after sonic tools worldwide to open and ignite your brain waves, resulting in cleansing, clearing and clarity. Monthly Activities
The 1st Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on Saturday, May 5, 2018, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Bring the children for an easy, but beautiful walk in the canyon. The naturalist guide will introduce your children to the wonders of the native habitat that supports many forms of wildlife here on the Peninsula. Beautiful vistas of the city await those that wish to trek a wee bit further. This is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome. Stories, Songs And More For All at White Point Nature Education Center will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. You will be able to share the joy of storytelling with your children and introduce them to the beauty of the natural surroundings. Your family will enjoy spending time with retired Children’s Librarian, Carla Sedlacek, for stories and activities featuring nature themes, exciting props and songs. This event is free. Birding with Wild Birds Unlimited at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. Observe the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve. The 3rd Saturday Guided Nature Walk at the White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. The naturalist led nature walk includes a visit to the Tongva Native Plant Gardens, where you will learn how early inhabitants of the Peninsula used native plant species for thousands of years. Then walk the Preserve’s paths among exquisitely restored coastal sage scrub habitat. You will stop at a former gun emplacement to learn about the military history of the area. The walk concludes with a visit to the wonderful Nature Education Center for all ages. This is considered a moderate walk. The White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W.
