Palos Verdes Library District October 2022 Activities!

 

Palos Verdes homes owners are enjoying the Palos Verdes Library District’s new expanded activities. Below are just a few of the opportunities that will take place in October 2022.

It’s PVLD Writing Month 

Please check the website for instructional workshops, writing seminars and the new write-in event taking place this month.

4th Annual Teen Writing Contest – Call for Entries

This is for 6-12 grade students to show off their writing talents. Follow the prompt every Monday beginning in November, and you will have a chance to win $50, be published on the library website and have your work read by YA author Phil Stamper.

Board Games At the Library For Adults

On Monday, October 20, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., you can join instructors and other neighbors at the Peninsula Library Purcel Meeting Room and enjoy some fun board games.

Fingerprint Comics Friday

On Friday, October 21, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., learn how to make comics with fun fingerprint characters! They will have examples of different fingerprint shapes and figures to help you get started. Supplies will be provided. Peninsula Center Library Story Time Room.

Brainfuse is better than ever!

Now you can get live help with math, reading, writing, and language arts anytime day or night with Brainfuse HelpNow! The online tutoring you know and love has expanded tutoring hours for all California students. Math, reading, and writing tutors are available 24/7. Tutors in other subjects are available from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm

New Storytime Added to the Schedule

Silly Saturday Storytime has been added to the library activities and is a silly story time for kids of all ages and their parents and caregivers. Hosted by librarians and friendly puppets who will share fun stories, songs, and maybe even dancing. No registration is required.

Nature & Me Storytime

This event will take place at the George F Canyon Nature Center on Friday, October 28, 2022, from 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. We’ll share stories and songs at the wonderful Nature Center in Rancho Palos Verdes! Recommended for ages 2 to 5 years and their parents or caregivers. No registration is required. Call the Young Readers Desk for more information at 310-377-9584 ext 600.  George F Canyon Nature Center is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.

Lets Talk Music will be meeting on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the Peninsula Center Meeting Room. This month’s music will be Al Green, Cat Stevens, and Kate Bush.

TechKnows – Drop-in Tech Help

On Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, the Miraleste Library will have drop in help to assist you with all your tech questions. Whether its your kindle or how to download e-books, they can help you with their knowledgeable team.

The Peninsula Library Book Club meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 11:00 a.m. in the Purcell Meeting Room. This month on October 4, 2022, they will be discussing Page Against the Machine. All are welcome to join.
The Miraleste Library Book Club is on the second Saturday of every month. (October 8, 2022) Each month read a different book! For more information and registration click here. Below is the reading list for the year.

  • November 12, 2022: Oh William! by Elizabeth Strout
  • December 10, 2022: [Share-A-Book/Pick-A-Book

 

Peninsula Friends of the Library – Malaga Cove Book Sale will take place on October 21st & 22nd, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
