Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Hikes & Trails July 2023

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is looking for volunteers like you to help restore and maintain the beauty of Palos Verdes trails and preserves. Today in the Special Events area, the Native Plant Nursery will be once again selling plants, Trail Watch Volunteer Training is starting, Vicente Bluffs Reserve will be open for a hike, and Full Moon Walks are back for summer.

Special Events

Guided Nature Walk at Vicente Bluffs Reserve will take place on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. Follow the bluff top from Point Vicente to Oceanfront Estates during the El Segundo blue butterfly flight season in an area containing restored coastal sage scrub habitat. This is considered an easy walk. Sign up at pvplc.org/calendar.

Native Plant Sales take place on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at George F Canyon from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at White Point Nature Education Center from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monthly Plant Sales are back. Go to the nature centers during the sales and learn more about growing local native plants and purchase some for your garden.

Become a Trail Watch Volunteer with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy on Saturday’s July 15 and July 22, 2023. If you are interested in educating others on how to safely enjoy the trails and natural areas, this would be for you. Find out how at a training class on July 15 and 22nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Sign up at  www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com

Full Moon Walks are Back for the Summer at George F Canyon starting Friday, July 28, 2023, at 8:30 p.m. You will join a naturalist guided experience on a moonlit trail to see nature’s nocturnal sights. This is for ages 8+ and there is a charge of $12 per person. Advance reservations are required. Space does fill up quickly so don’t wait to sign up at pvplc.org/calendar.

Special Activities

Guided Nature Walk at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. You be guided by a trained naturalist and discover a unique variety of wildlife in their canyon habitat while enjoying amazing views of the LA Basin. Meet outside on the back deck of the George F Canyon Nature Center. Park in the Preserve lot located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates. No RSVP is required.

Guided Nature Walk at the White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Naturalists will guide you along a trail (with amazing views across the ocean) to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their coastal sage scrub habitat. Meet in front of the Nature Center and come inside to explore after the hike. Parking is in the lot at the end of the street in a gravel lot at 1600 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. No reservations are required.

Volunteer Activities

Outdoor Volunteer Day at Alta Vicente Reserve will take place on Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Come help restore habitat on the 22 acre restoration site to create a home for rare cactus wrens and gnat catchers while taking in the beautiful views of Catalina Island. Outdoor Volunteer Day will take place at Abalone Cove on Saturday’s July 15 & July 29, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You can help the conservancy by volunteering on a breathtaking coastal reserve and helping restore wildlife habitat. Students can receive community service hours. Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Sunday’s July 16 & July 23, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You can help care for the gardens at White Point Nature Preserve by planting native shrubs, removing invasive weeds, watering native plants, grooming trails and more. Rapid Response Team will take place on Fridays & Saturdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You will work alongside Conservancy staff protecting important wildlife habitat by closing unauthorized trails. The tasks include trail maintenance, building fences, installing signage, and more. No experience is needed and volunteers must be 15 years of age and up. You will be working at various locations and can volunteer by going to  www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
