Palos Verdes Library District October 2023 Activities!

PV Writes Together is a great program calling all writers to join the annual Writing program which is back in full swing. During the months of October/November there will be inspirational writing events taking place with lectures and workshops at the Palos Verdes Library District. Events will culminate in an Anthology where the participants who attend four writing events can submit a 1,500 word project to be published.

How to Participate: PV Writes Together encourages writers to work on all types of writing—novels, poetry, nonfiction, memoirs, etc.

  • Beginning October 1st, register and pick up your information packets from any PVLD Service Desk.  Registration ends November 18, 2023.
  • Get your brochure stamped at the end of each event you attend.
  • Brochure (included in your packet) with at least four (4) stamps must be turned in to the reference desk by November 22, 2023 to participate in the Anthology.
  • Published participants will be given one (1) complimentary copy of the Anthology and may participate in a live reading on January 24, 2024.  You may purchase additional copies.  Details TBD.

Teen Writing Contest – The 5th annual Teen Writing Contest will be going on throughout November where participants in grades 6-12 can respond to a prompt and have a chance to win $100, be published on the library website, and have their work read by celebrated YA author Rena Barron. Expression of Compassion – Opening reception will take place on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Malaga Cove Library Art Gallery.

Yoga for beginners – will start on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m at the Peninsula Center Library Community Room. You will be able to practice gentle yoga in a calming environment. All levels are welcome. Bring your own mat or use one of theirs. No registration is required. Other dates will be October 17, 24, & 31, 2023.

Daily Breeze Digital Edition is now available – and you just sign in with your library card and select the Daily Breeze (Torrance, CA) – 2020-Current Edition.

TechKnows – Drop-in Tech Help – Will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Peninsula Center Library Community Room. Just drop in and help will be there to assist you with all your tech questions. Whether its your kindle or how to download e-books, their knowledgeable team can help you.

Board Games At the Library For Adults – will take place on Monday, October 9, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Peninsula Center Library Purcell Meeting Room. Join your neighbors for a friendly game of chess, checkers, Scrabble, and other board games! No reservations are required, just drop in.

The Miraleste Library Book Club is on the second Saturday of every month at 1:00 p.m. (October 14, 2023). Each month read a different book! This month it will be Circe by Madeline Miller. The Malaga Cove Book Club will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023, with Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury.
