Palos Verdes Hikes & Trails Events March 2018
During the month of March 2018, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor hikes/activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.
Special Events:
George F Canyon Nature Center Docent Training will take place on Saturday, March 3, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This training program will help volunteers run the Conservancy’s Nature Centers and education programs. Must be 18 and over. Sign up at http://pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Land Conservancy at Linden H. Chandler Preserve on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. You will experience this impressively restored 28 acre nature preserve with its lush oasis of riparian habitat and home to the rare Palos Verdes blue butterfly. This is considered a moderate walk and is free and open to the public. To park, go to Rolling Hills Road turn onto Empty Saddle Road and park in the lot at Empty Saddle Club located at 39 Saddle Road, Rolling Hills Estates. White Point Nature Center Docent Training will take place on Saturday, March 17, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This training program will help you run the Conservancy’s Nature Centers and educational programs. Must be 18 and over. Sign up at http://pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
Team Leader Training will take place on Saturday, March 31, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Team Leaders provide support and oversight during events. This is a great program if you love restoring habitat and working with others. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and have gone to at least 2 volunteer events before attending the workshop. Monthly Activities
The First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. Bring your family and join a naturalist guide to discover habitat, wildlife and more on an easy hike up the canyon with amazing views of the city. Guided Nature Walk at the White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. You will visit the Preserve and attend a Naturalist-guided hike. Enjoy coastal views and learn more about the plants, animals, restoration area and more. The White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar in San Pedro. Birding with Wild Birds Unlimited at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. Observe the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve. Binoculars will be supplied for beginners. The program is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome. White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro. Native Plant Sale at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, March 24, 2018, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Plants are sold on a first come, first serve basis. White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar in San Pedro. For more information call (310) 541-7613.
Birding with Wild Birds Unlimited at George F Canyon will take place on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. Observe the birds in nesting season making a home in the canyon. The program is free and all ages are welcome. Parking is available at the Center which is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates. Stories, Songs, Rhythm and Rhymes – “Springtime” at George C Canyon Center will take place on Saturday, March 30, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. They will share the joy of story telling with your children and introduce them to the beauty of their natural surroundings. Volunteer Opportunities:
Outdoor Volunteer Days at Native Plant Nursery will take place on Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. You will nurture seedlings to grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects. Must RSVP at least 48 hours in advance. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
Outdoor Volunteer Days at Alta Vicente Reserve will take place on Saturday’s March 3 & 10th, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Help restore this unique canyon habitat home to many threatened and endangered wildlife species. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteer.com.
