Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Hikes & Trails October 2023

Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is looking for volunteers to help maintain and restore our trails and preserves. Today in the Special Events area, the Native Plant Nursery will be once again selling plants, Wildlife Tracking is starting, Guided Nature Walk will take place at Malaga Dunes and George F Canyon Preserve will be offering a Full Moon Walk.

Special Events

Guided Nature Walk at Malaga Dunes will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. This walk will allow you to explore this unique area on the Peninsula with Creekside habitat, diminutive tree frogs, and land formed on wind blown sand dunes. This is considered an easy to moderate walk. Sign up at pvplc.org/calendar.

Native Plant Sales take place on Saturdays, October 14, 2023, at George F Canyon from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at White Point Nature Education Center from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Go to the nature centers during the sales and learn more about growing local native plants and purchase some for your garden.

Wildlife Tracking will take place on Saturdays October 21 & 28, 2023, from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 a.m. (2 day training). You will learn to monitor coyotes and other wildlife in the Palos Verdes Peninsula. No experience is required. Ages 16+ and pre-registration is required. This will take place at 32201 Forrestal Drive, Rancho Palos Verdes. Sign up at  www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Full Moon Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. You will join the Palos Verdes Land Conservancy’s naturalist for a guided experience on a moonlit trail to see the nocturnal creatures. Ages for this event are 8+ and there is a fee of $12 per person. Advance reservations are required. These spaces fill up quickly, so don’t wait to sign up at pvplc.org/calendar.

Special Activities

Guided Nature Walk at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. You will be guided by a trained naturalist and discover a unique variety of wildlife in their canyon habitat while enjoying amazing views of the LA Basin. Meet outside on the back deck of the George F Canyon Nature Center. Park in the Preserve lot located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates. No RSVP is required.

Guided Nature Walk at the White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Naturalists will guide you along a trail (with amazing views across the ocean) to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their coastal sage scrub habitat. Meet in front of the Nature Center and come inside to explore after the hike. Parking is in the lot at the end of the street in a gravel lot at 1600 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. Volunteer Activities

Outdoor Volunteer Day at Agua Amarga will take place on Saturday’s, October 7 & 28th, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You can help to remove invasive weeds and care for a community restoration site to benefit wildlife. Students can receive community service hours. Sign up at  www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Outdoor Volunteer Outdoor Volunteer Day will take place at Abalone Cove on Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You can help the conservancy by volunteering on a breathtaking coastal reserve and helping restore wildlife habitat. Students can receive community service hours. Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You can help care for the gardens at White Point Nature Preserve by planting native shrubs, removing invasive weeds, watering native plants, grooming trails and more. Sign up at  www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Rapid Response Team will take place on Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You will work alongside Conservancy staff protecting important wildlife habitat by closing unauthorized trails. The tasks include trail maintenance, building fences, installing signage, and more. No experience is needed and volunteers must be 15 years of age and up. Students can receive community service hours. You will be working at various locations and can volunteer by going to  www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
