Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Hikes & Trails December 2023

Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy has lots of volunteer opportunities this month to help maintain and restore our trails and preserves. Today in the Special Events area are: Community Engagement Orientation, Portuguese Bend Reserves special walking event, the Native Plant Nursery will be once again be selling plants, and Guided Nature Walks will take place at White Point Nature Preserve, Alta Vicente Reserve and George F Canyon Nature Preserve.

Special Events

Community Engagement Orientation will take place on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  Join this new community engagement/outreach team as they welcome members of the community to join the Land Conservancy. There is a flexible volunteer schedule. It is open to ages 18+. Sign up at  www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Guided Nature Walk at Portuguese Bend Reserve will take place on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. Enjoy one of the best overlooks of the 1,500 acre Palos Verdes Nature Preserve. Take in magnificent ocean views and walk through habitat restored after a 2009 wildfire. This is a moderate to strenuous walk. Sign up at sign up at pvplc.org/calendar.

Native Plant Sales take place on Saturday’s December 9th at George F Canyon from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Saturday, December 23, 2023, at White Point Nature Education Center from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Go to the nature centers during the sales and learn more about growing local native plants and purchase some for your garden.

Special Activities

Guided Nature Walk at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. You will be guided by a trained naturalist and discover a unique variety of wildlife in their canyon habitat while enjoying amazing views of the LA Basin. Meet outside on the back deck of the George F Canyon Nature Center. Park in the Preserve lot located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates. No RSVP is required.

Guided Nature Walk at the White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, December 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Naturalists will guide you along a trail (with amazing views across the ocean) to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their coastal sage scrub habitat. Meet in front of the Nature Center and come inside to explore after the hike. Parking is in the lot at the end of the street in a gravel lot at 1600 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. Volunteer Activities

Outdoor Volunteer Day will take place at Alta Vicente Reserve on Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. There you can help to restore habitat on the 22 acre restoration site to create a home for rare cactus wrens and gnatcatchers while taking in the beautiful views of Catalina Island.  Sign up at  www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Sunday, December 9, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You can help care for the gardens at White Point Nature Preserve by planting native shrubs, removing invasive weeds, watering native plants, grooming trails and more. Outdoor Volunteer Day at Agua Amarga Reserve will take place on Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00noon. You can help remove invasive weeds and care for a community restoration site to benefit wildlife. Sign up at  www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Outdoor Volunteer Day will take place at Abalone Cove on Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You can help the conservancy by volunteering on a breathtaking coastal reserve and helping restore wildlife habitat. Students can receive community service hours. Rapid Response Team will take place on Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You will work alongside Conservancy staff protecting important wildlife habitat by closing unauthorized trails. The tasks include trail maintenance, building fences, installing signage, and more. No experience is needed and volunteers must be 15 years of age and up. Students can receive community service hours. You will be working at various locations and can volunteer by going to  www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
