Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Hikes & Trails January 2024

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy has many more options for the community in 2024. Many of the preserves and the Nature Centers are open for all of us to enjoy. However, in order to keep all these areas open, they need volunteers to help restore and maintain the beauty of Palos Verdes. Today in the Volunteer Activities you can find more opportunities to help our reserves.  

Special Events

Community Canvassing Orientation with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Join this new engagement canvassing team to welcome members of the community by introducing them to the Land Conservancy. There is a flexible volunteer schedule. Open to ages 18+. Sign up at pvplc.org/calendar.

Guided Nature Walk at Tree Sisters Reserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. You will hike through a scenic 21 acre restored coastal sage scrub habitat which is home to the threatened California gnatcatcher. This is considered a moderate walk. Sign up at pvplc.org/calendar.

Martin Luther King, Jr, Day of Service will take place on Monday, January 15, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the White Point Nature Preserve. You will help care for the White Point Native Plant Demonstration Garden by planting native shrubs, removing invasive weeds, watering plants, grooming trails and more. Sign up at pvplc.org/calendar.

Native Plant Sales will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at George F Canyon from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at White Point Nature Education Center from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monthly Plant Sales are back! Come to the nature centers during their sales to learn more about growing local native plants and purchase some for your garden.

Special Activities

Guided Nature Walk at George F Canyon will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. You will be guided by a trained naturalist to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their canyon habitat (with amazing views of the LA Basin). Meet outside on the back deck of the George F Canyon Nature Center. Park in the Preserve lot located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates. Sign up at pvplc.org/calendar.

Guided Family Nature Walk will take place at White Point Nature Preserve on Saturday, January 20, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Naturalists will guide you along a trail (with amazing views across to the ocean) to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their coastal sage scrub habitat. Meet in front of the Nature Center and come inside to explore after the hike. Preserve parking available at the end of the street in a gravel lot at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. Volunteer Activities

Outdoor Volunteer Day will take place at Abalone Cove on Saturday, January  6, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You can help the conservancy by volunteering at the newest restoration site on a breathtaking coastal reserve and help eradicate invasive weeds to protect native species. Outdoor Volunteer Day with take place at Alta Vicente Reserve on Saturday’s January 20th & January 27, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You can help the Conservancy restore habitat on the 22 acre restoration site (with beautiful views of Catalina Island) to create a home for rare cactus wrens and gnatcatchers. Outdoor Volunteer Day will take place at White Point Nature Preserve on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You can help care for the native plant demonstration garden at White Point Preserve by planting native shrubs, removing invasive weeds, watering native plants, grooming trails and more. Sign up at  www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Rapid Response Team will take place on Fridays & Saturdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You will work alongside Conservancy staff protecting important wildlife habitat by closing unauthorized trails. The tasks include trail maintenance, building fences, installing signage, and more. No experience is needed and volunteers must be 15 years of age and up. You will be working at various locations and can volunteer by going to  www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
