Palos Verdes Home Owners Enjoy Local Area Holiday Fun 2019!

1 week ago • Children's Events, Community Events, Community Information, Things To Do In Palos Verdes

Palos Verdes Home Owners Enjoy Local Area Holiday Fun 2019!

Palos Verdes homes owners have many holiday activities near the Peninsula during the holiday season. Here are two more for families to enjoy:

A great family activity during the holiday season is viewing the lights in Sleepy Hollow (a.k.a. Candy Cane Lane).  Tucked away in a South Torrance neighborhood is one of the most spectacular displays of Christmas lights in the South Bay (and possibly in the country) which can be viewed beginning December 1, 2019, through January 2, 2020.  You can walk or drive through Candy Cane Lane and get in the holiday spirit.  Sleepy Hollow Christmas Lights is located on Roberts Road off Pacific Coast Highway from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. every night until New Year’s Eve.  Walking through the area is a much more relaxed, up-close view of the displays without all the traffic.  You can skip the traffic by parking on Pacific Coast Highway, Calle Mayor or Prospect, and walk to Roberts Road, just west of Calle Mayor.  Some of the houses will be selling hot chocolate, coffee, or churros as you walk through the neighborhood.  It is recommended to go early in the month, since the crowds are large between Christmas and New Years.

On Saturday, December 14, 2019, the local 28th annual Holiday Boat Parade will take place in Redondo Beach at King Harbor.  Paddle craft boaters will be kicking off the parade at 4:00 p.m. with their decorated and lighted boards and they will be followed by power and sail boats which will be all decked out.  Each year there is a theme for the parade and this year’s theme is “Surfing the Yule Tide.”  The parade’s Grand Marshall will be Gary Crum who will be leading the parade in the Grand Marshall boat.  For more information on the boat parade, trophy categories, and tickets click here.

3 weeks ago • Community Events, Community Information, Senior Information, Things To Do In Palos Verdes

Enjoy Palos Verdes Library District’s December 2019 Free Movies!

pvld

The Palos Verdes Library District has some great free movies that they will be showing during the month of December 2019.  Each month they offer a different selection of foreign movies, “latest” releases,  and classic cinema.  Most of the screenings will have some post film discussion which adds an opportunity to socialize with others in the community.  In December, the following movies will be presented:

Classic Movies at Noon, which shows films from the 1930’s through the 1990’s on the first Tuesday of the month, will be screening this month on Monday, December 2, 2019, at noon, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS  (1944) in the Peninsula Center Library.  The setting is 1904 and the St. Louis World’s Fair, where the four Smith daughters learn lessons of life and love, even as they prepare for a reluctant move to New York.

The PVLD’s Ciné-Monde, a film series featuring notable films from around the globe are shown on the second Thursday of the month, will be screening AT ETERNITY’S GATE (2018, IRELAND) on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the Peninsula Center Library Community Room.  This movies looks at the life of painter, Vincent van Gogh, during the time he lived in Arles and Auvers-sur-Oise, France.

The Multiplex film series will be offering a very special feature on Thursday, December 26, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., ROCKETMAN (2019). This is a musical fantasy about Elton John’s breakthrough years.

Beginning in 2020, there will be only two film programs.  It will be Classics @ Noon which will have one showing at 12:00 noon on the first Monday of each month and Thursday Films (Multiplex) will have two showings at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month beginning January 9, 2020.  At Thursday Films, they will be showing movies that run the gambit from world cinema (aka foreign language films) to popular, mainstream, documentary, and beyond.

All of the film screenings this month will take place at the Peninsula Center Library Community Room located at 701 Silver Spur Road, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information regarding any of the films, call 310-377-9584.

The Banning Museum Celebrates The 2019 Holidays!

Palos Verdes homes owners know that holiday celebrations are just around the corner.  If you like an old-fashioned Christmas, you will enjoy the “Victorian Christmas” at the Banning Museum.

The Victorian Christmas event will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  During this special weekend, the grounds and museum are transformed into a Christmas festival with Victorian period entertainment.  There will be a walk through of the Banning Residence decorated in holiday splendor, a visit with Santa Claus, free cookies and cider, a children’s craft, a blacksmith doing his work, plus local food and craft vendors.  One of the special highlights will be the horse-drawn trolley ride between the Banning Museum and the Drum Barracks at the Civil War Museum.  Admission is free, and the last house tour and trolley ride are at 3:30 p.m.  Parking is on the street.

Throughout the year, the museum offers guided tours Tuesday through Thursday at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.  On Saturday & Sunday the tours are at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

For more information go to www.thebanningmuseum.org. or call (310) 548-7777.   The Banning Museum is located at 401 E. M Street, Wilmington.
